About the Director
Julie Gonzalez Gallego founded Ballet Folklorico San Juan in 1987 at Tucson’s own St. John’s Catholic Church. Julie has taught thousands of children the art of Folklorico and the apperciation of Mexican Culture for over two decades. After renting a few buildings on Tucson’s Southside, Julie was able to obtain a building of her own and called it Viva Performing Arts Center. Viva was established for Tucson’s youth to come together and celebrate their hispanic culture and experience the passion of dance. In 2009 Julie was named Business Woman of the Year by Tucson’s Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
